A little light Spring News!
A dinner with Asador 44 in Cardiff, Bristol Fire School 2024 is go, and SCORCHED publication is just 2 weeks away!
Good afternoon you fiery lot!
It seems the year is speeding up and stuff is coming on thick and fast as we slide headlong into ‘barbecue season’. Can anyone else not believe how fast we got to it being practically Easter already?!
I wanted to give you a quick heads up on a event that selling out super fast, just in case any of you can make it. I believe we pretty much sold out overnight but perhaps if you’re quick there may be a handful of places left.
The glorious Asador 44, longtime friends and supporters of my work, asked me if I fancied hosting a fish and fire dinner to celebrate the launch of SCORCHED on the other side of the river Severn to my beloved Bristol. Obviously I said yes. We worked super hard to get a menu together (see below!!), and there will be wine to match each course should you fancy. As I said, super tight on any tix left, but ping an email to: reservations@grupo44.co.uk
Who knows, maybe we’ll host another one soon because this has gone down such a storm. And (mummy moment) my boy is at Cardiff University so any trip over the bridge always gives me the perfect excuse to sneak a hug with my baby…
In other news, I opened the doors to Bristol Fire School this Monday just gone for the first class of 2024. I always feel a little nervous after a break. Teaching is certainly a thing I need to find my vibe with and I get a little rusty over winter. I needn’t have worried, it was a class full of gorgeous humans, ready to learn and ready to muck in. Unlike some other cookery schools, here I very much expect people to actually cook. I’m a firm believer in doing over listening as a way better way of learning. This is no diss on how other people run their businesses, I’m just a very practical hands on sort of person. It’s what I enjoy and I hope what people come here for.
Classes for spring are almost sold out now - just one place on a Mediterranean Over Fire day on the 14th May, and a couple of places on a Wood Fired Oven day, 20th May. Good news is I am currently blocking out summer classes in my diary and I hope to release these dates here around about Easter. You’ll get a newsletter with dates just as soon as I’ve firmed up a few other events and stuff that I have floating around. Cannot say more now but it may involve some time in Spain and Sweden. Shhh.
Lastly for now - my book SCORCHED - is very nearly out! Huge thanks to those of you that have pre-ordered it. I currently have a big pile of padded envelopes teetering on my office floor ready addressed and labelled and waiting. Just as soon as I can send them they will be one their way to you. It’s all a bit skin-of-your-teeth with the book launch party with books due to come into the warehouse on the 20th March after (I presume) clearing customs after a long, long boat journey via the politically fraught Suez canal. My publishers have put a BIG RED FLAG next to them to say I need copies urgently for the launch. They may indeed end up arriving mid party. Or they may (eeeeek) not make it until afterwards. My toes and fingers and legs are crossed! God speed little book!
As of writing I think I can squeeze just a few more people in for my very own self styled ‘piss up in a brewery’. All in aid of the wonderful Mazi project. Click here if you want to come. I’ve raised about a grand in ticket donations so far which I truly appreciate. The raffle is looking pretty epic with not one but two actual barbecues donated by my friends at Weber (try getting one of those bad boys in an Uber when you’ve drank 6 pints of Keller Pils, eh??), and a chunky ass cooler (ditto, Uber fun) from those super cool gang over at YETI, along with a lot of SCORCHED branded special edition rambler bottles and lots of other cool stuff.
Anyway, thanks as ever for your support. Especially if you’ve taken the time to leave me any nice comments on my instagram page this past couple of weeks. They really do make a difference on the days when the internet seems to be full of complete and utter tossers. The old adage of ‘if you can’t say anything nice, say nothing’ rings so true.
If you have anything nice to say, do feel free to leave me a comment below!
Over and Out.
Big love,
GT x
Would have loved to join you in the “piss up at the brewery” but it’s my birthday weekend, and I will be away - but can’t wait to meet you in May Gen 🤗🔥 xx
Oh wow, the Asador 44 menu looks amazing. Absolutely gutted we can’t make it. I don’t suppose any of those dishes are in Scorched are they?
